ChargePoint Services Ltd & the Marriott Hotels have today announced the launch of electric vehicle charging facilities at the newly renovated car spaces at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel in the South of England.
The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel is the first Marriott in the UK to install the GE WattStation as a public facility, and will provide guests and visitors meeting, who are dining or sleeping at the hotel, with free charging for their electric vehicle.
ChargePoint worked together with the Portsmouth Marriott to establish an EV charging solution that would complement Portsmouth Marriott’s modern look and its contribution to the Green Vision of the hotel and Marriott International. The GE WattStation’s contemporary design offers the latest in electric vehicle charging. It is simple and straightforward to use, essential for busy public access.
Barend Jan Schreuder, General Manager at Portsmouth Marriott, said. “We wanted to pilot a modern contemporary system for electrical car charging for all our hotels in Europe and found that the General Electric, WattStation would work very well for our hotels. They can be wall mounted or fixed on posts, easy to use and look great. We decided to offer battery charging from 20% to 80% free of charge to encourage customers to use our hotel and facilities and hopefully rent electric cars at the airports or simply drive down to Portsmouth.”
The Portsmouth City Council co-sponsored this project from their Sustainable Transport funds to encourage more people to buy and use electric cars in and around the Portsmouth area for business or leisure.
Alex Bamberg, Managing Director, ChargePoint Services Ltd, said. “The Portsmouth Marriott is unique in its forward thinking approach to green transportation, with premium brands such as BMW, Mercedes and Tesla, coming to the market with the latest green automotive technology, Marriott is supporting its client base with clean energy refuelling, and demonstrating its commitment to sustainable operations, as well as improving local air quality and climate protection. ChargePoint are delighted to be supporting this project through the provision of the latest GE clean tech EV charging technology.”
There are over 300 Marriott hotels in Europe, 65 of which are in the UK, and the Portsmouth Marriott is a European model for the Group. ChargePoint Services Ltd can support their commitment to helping the environment with the repeated roll out of the Portsmouth pilot European-wide providing an integrated network of electric vehicle charging throughout the hotel’s extensive chain.
