After years of shying away from publishing official Nurburgring times, BMW has finally given in and communicated the official Ring time of the upcoming M4 GTS. The time driven by Jörg Weidinger in a BMW M4 GTS to complete a lap of the Nordschleife (North Loop) was around 7 minutes 28 seconds.

So where does that put BMW on a list of fastest cars around the coolest and likely most dangerous track in the world? Coming in 40th, the M4 GTS is in the company of some great cars, some of them more track oriented and engineered. The previous generation of the almighty Porsche 911 GT3 RS ranks just below the M4 GTS. Faster than the M4 GTS were some more expensive track machines, like the Porsche 911 Turbo S (991) 7:26.00, Nissan GT-R (R35) Toshio Suzuki 7:26.70, Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 ( 997) 7:27.00 and McLaren MP4-12C Horst von Saurma 7:28.00.

The decision to publish the Ring times comes at a time when BMW are being compared with the likes of Alfa which recently made the headlines of many publications with its Giulia QV lapping the Nurburgring in 7:43 minutes.

BMW will only be developing 700 of the M4 GTS, with only 300 making it to the North American market. Those are very low figures, even lower than the those of the Porsche 911 GT3.
